...continuing this expressive series of palette knife works of the one foot squared.
The last few days have been productive in the studio and three new works were finished last night. This is a favorite of those three and has a spontaneous vibe to it with a kind of Native feel and painted with emotion. More to follow...
Number two in the 12'' Mindscape Series. These are painted quickly in one or two sittings because I want them to feel spontaneous and full of emotion. Snapshots of landscapes stored in my mind. Maybe they are snippets of real places, dreams or complete imagination. I would like to hear what you see in them, so drop a line or comment.
It's always fun to switch from larger canvas work and just paint these little panels. I paint them spontaneously without too much thought and just see where they will go. They are great studies for the big paintings and I really enjoy doing them.
I'm back into the painting groove after working on the 36x48 painting posted a few days ago. I just finished this one and have two more in progress which will be up in the next couple of days. I really get into these minis and explore new techniques and color combinations which can be used for larger works. The trouble with these being so small is having to use restraint and not overpaint them. I also want to use good balance and arrangement just the same as a large painting. Working small helps me to slow down and focus on each area of the painting. I still use the palette knife in the same loose way, but the strokes are more controlled on the small panels.
Emails with questions or comments are welcomed.
I continued last night with the new train of thought - another spontaneous palette knife piece with rythm. Painting these small panels is really helping with my creative process and I enjoy doing these more every day.
