I went from small canvas panels to LARGE over the weekend. It's amazing what you can do when the weather is too bad to leave the house for a few days!

We seem to have dodged the bullet so far with ice here in Western Oklahoma and we are not without power like some unfortunate ones in other areas.
It is now snowing on top of the ice and sleet and it looks like we'll be sitting home for awhile. I started painting last night and plan to continue over the weekend. This 8x8 is a result of last night's cold weather painting session.

Oklahoma Ice Storm

This is my North studio window over the painting easel today. We are getting hit with freezing rain and these big ones usually bring power outages from ice buildup, so if you don't see a new post for awhile, you'll know my power is out. I hope it doesn't get that bad, but we have been through it before. I spent the last two days getting things ready for the possiblity, so we'll stay in and stay warm. You know it's going to be rough when even the gravel drive is slick!
Maybe if we get stuck in I can have some quiet painting time.

"Metroflections" Abstract City Scene on Canvas Panel

"Metroflections"
8''x8'' Acrylic Palette Knife Painting on RayMar Canvas Panel
$80 (shipping in US included)
I keep going back to painting what I call "city scenes", even though I live in rural Western Oklahoma. I am really inspired by the way light and shadow plays against buildings and structures. This painting is an abstract image of structures and reflections on wet surfaces...
in a blurred sort of way.

I am trying to get back in my painting groove with my 8x8 series after holidays and family things. We've also been trying to finish some construction projects here and that has taken some of my extra time. Maybe the "almost daily" series should be almost weekly instead right now! Between running a graphic design business, Facebook, two blogs and a website to keep up, I'm lucky to find time to paint.

"Finding Shelter" Acrylic on Floating Panels

©2010 Mark Yearwood
"Finding Shelter"
20'' x 22'' x 2'' Textured Acrylic on Floating Wood Panels
$700
While I'm working on some fresh new paintings, I'll post a couple of available ones that are in my current galleries. This is one of my layered wood panel pieces at The Old Katy Glassworks and Gallery in Denison, TX. This one of those pieces that practically painted itself. The textures on the board told me where to paint and I ended up quite pleased with the result.
I am getting ready to start another batch of the 8x8 paintings, so look for those here soon.
I only have four of those on my website that are not sold. If you see one that you really like, don't hesitate too long or you might miss it. That has happened to a couple of people lately.
While I may paint something similar again, no two are alike and each one has its own personality. Thanks for following my work!

Help me grow on Facebook and win a painting! UPDATE!

We have a winner! Jennifer Douglas from Oklahoma was the 200th fan on my Facebook page and wins the 8x8'' abstract along with her friend. Thanks for making this a success and I'll think of another painting giveaway for the near future.

Earlier today I picked a number between 174 and 300. My Facebook art page has been adding fans daily, so a certain lucky new fan who is that number will win one of my 8''x8'' Abstracts on panel. To make it even better, if you were invited to the page by another fan, they will also win a painting. So hit the Facebook link down there on the right and become a fan of Mark Yearwood Abstract Art. Good luck!

I continued painting this weekend in earthtone mode, finishing this 8x8 and working on a
24'' x 24'' canvas with the same color palette. When I have all of these colors out, I may as well use them up before they dry, right?

"Martinique"- the first abstract canvas of 2010

©2010 Mark Yearwood
"Martinique"
24'' x 36'' Palette Knife Abstract on Canvas
SOLD
This was the blank canvas in the photo posted here on December 31. I used the tools shown in the photo to paint this in the style of my 8''x8'' works. Named after the tropical island also known as the Island of Flowers. This deep freeze weather has me dreaming of those type of places often.
I will be doing more large paintings on gallery canvas in this rough and tumble style along with the smaller ones.

I'm trying to get back to the daily works after the interuptions the past couple of weeks. I picked a palette of earth tones for this one and it has a feel of angular rock formations.
