I really like painting these little "abstract studies" as I call them and since there were only two left after almost thirty of them, I will be painting more. People seem to really enjoy them and I just sent one to a woman in New Jersey last week. She had printed the image of the painting which spoke to her and carried it around in her purse for some time before finally making the purchase. This panel is a little different because it's the first in a while with no blues or cool tones anywhere. I decided to to try a completely earthy palette. I don't know what I think of it just yet but, maybe it will grow on me. I you like it...or not... please let me know. I'm sure it will go with someone's sofa.

I'm back into the painting groove after working on the 36x48 painting posted a few days ago. I just finished this one and have two more in progress which will be up in the next couple of days. I really get into these minis and explore new techniques and color combinations which can be used for larger works. The trouble with these being so small is having to use restraint and not overpaint them. I also want to use good balance and arrangement just the same as a large painting. Working small helps me to slow down and focus on each area of the painting. I still use the palette knife in the same loose way, but the strokes are more controlled on the small panels.

We seem to have dodged the bullet so far with ice here in Western Oklahoma and we are not without power like some unfortunate ones in other areas.

It is now snowing on top of the ice and sleet and it looks like we'll be sitting home for awhile. I started painting last night and plan to continue over the weekend. This 8x8 is a result of last night's cold weather painting session.

I keep going back to painting what I call "city scenes", even though I live in rural Western Oklahoma. I am really inspired by the way light and shadow plays against buildings and structures. This painting is an abstract image of structures and reflections on wet surfaces...

This painting is inspired by photographer and artist Brad Rickerby's shots of city scenes at night. One photo on his site is of a street in China at night with the lights reflecting in the wet pavement. His photo is titled Nanjong Road Rain and has a blurred effect giving an abstract feel that I really liked.

This one is another "almost daily painting". It did not photograph real well and the bronze metallic squares and highlights look much better in person. Metallics are hard to capture with the camera.

I applied the square elements with medium so they are raised some.
